BIO COUNTDOWN TO TODAY

Forty-seven years ago, I was born in Belleville, Illinois. I have lived in a large triangle of Massachusetts, Texas, and Alaska, with St. Louis, Missouri in the center. Except for a 16-year stint in Chicago, Illinois, I consider St. Louis home.

Thirty-two years ago, I took up sewing on a dare in high school; I taught myself to sew. I sewed clothes for my parents, my siblings, and myself (nine of us in all). I taught my father to sew.

Twenty-six years ago, I started my first quilt. The quilt was machine-pieced and hand-quilted. It took me years to finish.

Seventeen years ago, I machine-stitched my second quilt.

From sixteen to ten years ago, I continued making quilts; I read books on color theory and design, incorporating what I learned into my quilts.

Nine years ago, I read my first book on symmetry. I grasped the implications of an infinite number of quilt patterns.

Eight years ago, I developed my own design system.

Four years ago, I received my first commission for a quilt.

Three years ago, I gave my first quilt show.

Two years ago, I began dyeing my own fabric.

Today, I launched a website.

I wonder, what will tomorrow hold?
